On the evening of March 2, 2024, the award ceremony for the final round of the 2024 International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia Pacific Championship, jointly organized by the University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Vietnam Association of Information Processing, took place in Hanoi. Among them, the Sudo team (University of Engineering and Technology) achieved the highest ranking for Vietnam, winning the Silver Medal in the championship.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Bui Hoang Phuong, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, and leaders from many universities, colleges, international sponsors, and Vietnam attended the ceremony. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Chairman of the University Council, and Dr. Nguyen Thu Huong, Vice-Rector of the University of Engineering and Technology, represented the University of Technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Chairman of the University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, delivered a speech at the closing ceremony. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

During Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc\u2019s speech, he expressed pride and honor that the University of Engineering and Technology was the hosting institution for the 2024 ICPC Asia Pacific Championship. Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc congratulated the presence and efforts of the 65 teams, consisting of 195 students and over 50 coaches from 40 universities across six countries and territories: Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The most successful aspect of the contest was discovering talent and attracting and encouraging students worldwide to explore their creative abilities and passion for information technology. Alongside this, the passion and determination of students and coaches were the driving force behind the success of the contest. The professor sent a message to the teams: \u201cBe proud that you have surpassed yourselves.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Emphasizing the importance of the contest once again, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Vice President of the Association of Information Processing, President of the Club of Faculties – Schools – Institutes in ICT, affirmed: \u201cI fully believe that the students here today will have a bright future ahead. I encourage you to nurture your passion for programming, create international friendships, and maintain the invaluable experiences gained here as you enter the wider world. I hope your efforts will lead to success, and I hope the relationships formed here will last for many years to come.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Veronika Soboleva, Director of Development of ICPC Foundation, hopes that this contest will spread to many students worldwide as the students of the participating teams will share their experiences and insights from this contest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the ICPC standards, on the morning of March 2, 2024, the teams started working from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this time, the teams had to solve 13 algorithmic problems to achieve the highest ranking and qualify as representatives of Asia-Pacific for the 2024 ICPC World Finals in Kazakhstan. After 5 hours of fierce contest, the NewTrend team from Seoul National University won with a total of 9 problems solved. In December 2023, NewTrend also won the ICPC Asia Hue City Regional Contest.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The champion of the contest is NewTrend from Seoul National University<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Among the 12 Vietnamese teams participating in the championship, Sudo<\/em> (University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) achieved the highest ranking with a silver medal. The members of Sudo<\/em> expressed joy after winning the silver medal at the contest. This result acknowledges the efforts of the members in a highly competitive contest like ICPC. However, the entire team will continue to strive in future ICPC contests. Through contests like these, besides honing programming skills, team members also develop teamwork skills and creative thinking to solve problems. \u201cAs students at the University of Engineering and Technology, we are extremely proud to participate in the international arena and it is a valuable experience for freshmen students. We learn and exchange experiences with international students and receive enthusiastic support and guidance from our coach during the preparation and practice. The learning environment of the University of Engineering and Technology has motivated us and provided opportunities to develop ourselves through international contests,\u201d shared students Pham Quoc Hung and Hoang Ngoc Bao Khue.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Sudo<\/em> won the Silver Medal and was the highest-ranking team among the 12 Vietnamese teams participating in this contest<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
