The Faculty of Information Technology was established on February 11, 1995 at VNU University of Science and was re-established on September 9, 2004. Inheriting and continuing the tradition of the branch of Computer Science at the Faculty of earlier \u201cMathematics \u2013 Mechanics\u201d (1960-1980) and later \u201cMathematics \u2013 Mechanics \u2013 Informatics\u201d (1980-1995) and of the Institute of Informatics and Electronics (1990-1995) at the former University of Hanoi (from 1956), the Faculty of Information Technology has become a leading IT faculty in Vietnam and gradually established its prestige in the ASEAN region and the Asia continent.<\/span>
\n Currently, Faculty of Information Technology consists of five departments and three research laboratories with a total of more than 70 faculty members including a number of postgraduate students working as teaching assistants. The faculty also runs 7 computer practice laboratories with more than 200 computers available for students\u2019 practical training. Every year, about 350 undergraduate students, 150 master students and 10 Ph.D. students are admitted to the faculty.<\/span>
\n Faculty of Information Technology takes pride in the broad range and high quality of our teaching programs. Our teaching gains strength and relevance from our research activities, industrial in-country and international collaborations. In developing new ideas and promoting lasting knowledge, we are creating an academic environment where outstanding students and prominent scholars from all around the world can be inspired to excel in their programs of study and research.<\/span>
\n Faculty of Information Technology is the first faculty in Vietnam having one of its programs, namely the Bachelor Program in Information Technology, accredited by the ASEAN University Network (AUN) in December 2009. The faculty currently is running two international-standard programs in Computer Science at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the VNU\u2019s Strategic Mission.<\/span>
\n Faculty of Information Technology has intensive collaborations in teaching and research with leading universities and institutes around the world such as JAIST, Tohoku University (Japan), UNU-IIST, University of New South Wales, National University of Singapore, University of Twente, etc. The faculty also has a strong research engagement with industry and is carrying out some joint research projects with such industrial partners as IBM, Mitani-Sangyo, NEC, Panasonic and Toshiba (overseas) as well as Tinh Van Group, HiPT Group, FSoft and others (in the country). Toshiba-Coltech Software Technology Laboratory and UET-IBM Center of Excellence are the two significant international academy-industry collaboration projects at the UET, which are run by the faculty staff of the Faculty of Information Technology.<\/span>
